How do I register my nickname?
Registering your nickname is one of the first things you should do after connecting to the server, as it is how people will recognize you and it will prevent others from taking the nickname. Registering a nickname is simple, takes only one command, and is totally free. After you have been using the nickname for 30 seconds, input the following command:
/ns register password email
Change password to something you will remember, and replace email with your email address. Entering a valid email is required, as we wouldn’t be able to reset your password if we can’t confirm the email address associated with the account.
Also, please bear in mind that passwords are case-sensitive, example: Anope and anope are two different passwords.
Once you have registered, you will need to identify to NickServ every time you log on to the server. To do this use /msg NickServ identify password, replacing password with the password you used when registering your nick.
If you would like to use more than one nickname, you can group nicknames to your main nickname. To do this simply change you nick to the nick you would like to group (/nick newnick) and after making sure the nickname isn’t alreadly registered input:
/ns group MainNick password
Replacing ‘password’ with the password you used to register your main nickname. Once you’ve done this, you will be given the same statuses in channels, and you can change between grouped nicknames without needing to reidentify to NickServ. Note: you can only group 16 nicknames to your account.
I pinged and now there are two of me – what do I do?
Given the volatile nature of the internet, nearly everybody loses connection or their ping gets so high that they “ping out” and reconnect to find their previous nick still on the network. This does not mean that someone has stolen your nickname, it just means that there is a “ghost” nick that hasn’t pinged off of the network yet.
To fix this, simply type /ns ghost nick-you-want-to-kill password
Replace ‘nick-you-want-to-kill’ with the nickname you want to disconnect from the network, and password with the nickname’s password that you registered with it. (ex: /ns ghost iPocalypse hfakie23 )
